Fun photos from the past

So I have been unable to touch a computer for the past couple weeks and I have a lot of pent up energy for writing waiting to be tapped so I figured I'd take you through a whirlwind tour of my past 40k experiences and highlight some defining moments of my gaming career. So let's start at the beginning... List building.

I was an excited little girl, this was going to be my first game with my tyranids in over a year. The 5th edition codex had just come out and gamecon had just ended and I was on a 40k roll. So I paired up my new nids with some orks and decided to show my opponent how much more powerful 5th edition codexes are! Lol, actually I got my ass handed to me. This is when I learned that just because a codex is shiny and new and supposedly OP, it doesn't mean that you can take your army from the previous codex and be prepared to pound face with it right off the bat, you need to practice and learn the new army before you are ready to win. Notice my now ex-girlfriend obviously enjoying the wonderful world of 40k with me at the shop. warning: not all girls are like me and some really aren't interested in 40k no matter how hard you try. Note, these pictures were just randomly uploaded so there really isn't any rhyme or reason to this little trip down memory lane... So just go with it. This here is my second fight club trophy that I had won. I honestly don't believe I deserved it but, eh? I have it right? I do find it funny that this is the second trophy I have won with my Necrons. Someone must like them.
Here is a fun shot from Gamecon, I was teaching some players the ropes and someone came up and snapped a pretty decent picture of my gaunts on their way to fight some chaos marines, go little guys go! Trust me, they look much worse in person.
This is one of my personal favorite 40k moments, I can't remember the details but what happened was my opponent had cornered my necrons and was preparing to go for the kill, phasing me out, when all of a sudden poof my dudes were on the other side of the table and I won handily the next turn. I love veil so much, it is by far my favorite piece of wargear in the game. I certainly hope it stays after the new codex drops eventually. This picture is my finest example of Kill point denial
This is what's going on on the other side of the board while my other guys are dodging out of the way of a potentially killing blow. My lord and scarabs are busy eating the Baneblade alive scoring me three kill points and the win. (this particular scenario had a nuetral baneblade on the table that counted as an additional kill point for each structure point you removed from it) Destroyer lords with scarab retinues are just so much fun. especially when you get to feed them a nice big delicious tank. People always forget just how awesome scarabs can be at disabling tanks.
Finally we come to the worst moment in my tournament career. I learned an important lesson, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I was playing against an all bike army in a scenario using the sentry rules. Due to the odd nature of the scenario and his army I pretty started the game with an infinite number of turns and could deploy anywhere on the tabble that I wanted as long as I was at least 6 inches away from the opponent. (If he would have chosen to be the attacker and I the defender, the game technically could not have even started and I would have won for my opponent not having any models on the table at the end of the game. This is where you have to be careful with divergent rules. Anyway this is where my infinite turns ended with his guys finally spotting mine and calling in the troops. The problem was that once I realized I could deploy 6" away from my opponent I promptly did... Not even thinking of an alternative, I just figured I would fire away and wipe out what he started on the table with and then just mop up from there. Lo and behold, that was not the case... Apparently bikes with FNP are really hard to take down with bolters. Who knew? So pretty much I deployed 6" away from Korsarro Khan shot at him with my entire army... Killed 3 bikes then got cut down by assault and my opponent's two vindicators that rolled on the next turn... This is probably my biggest d'oh moment I can think of and by far a low point for me.

Anyway that's it for me today, I have work in a half an hour and I spose I should probably start getting ready, I'll catch you all next time. -Jenn

Spocon this friday

The clock is ticking away and seeing as I am unable to do any work on my Army until I get moved into my new place I am really starting to feel the crunch. Spocon is slowly growing in size and this year with it being a golden ticket tournament I want to do my best. Of course the best intentions mean nothing if you can't prepare. I am planning on getting together with some local players to get ready for the con and have a paint day. I need to come up with a box of warriors before friday and my bank account is sitting at 3.07... So it's time to get creative with coming up with Immortals. My goal is to get them without having to have someone shell out for me to buy them, I hate begging as it is.
Of course my Necrons aren't the only thing that I am working on to get ready for the con. I have decided that this year I'm gonna get a little dressed up for the con so I don't look like a girl pretending to be a guy...
See me on the right> I promised myself I wouldn't look like crap again this year

Right now buying my outfits for the tournament is my primary concern. This is mainly because it's one of the few things I can actually work on. And I'm doing it all without money. Go go value village. So tomorrow I am going shopping with the resident Con Queen, and I will see what I can come up with.
The Con Queen, master of her Domain

For gamecon I made my best attempt to match my Necrons, for Spocon I'm just trying to look cuter (mainly because I am single this year and cons seem like a pretty good place to pick up a date... Right?)

Also don't worry, I'm totally not going to be girling out on my readers constantly, I just wanted to make a post because it's been so long and I finally have access to a computer. I also wanted to take the time to post more pictures of my world so as to convince more people to come to Spocon and Gamecon next year, I would love to see the likes of Brent up here for one of the cons so I can stalk him like he stalks Jawaballs. Of course I would love to see anyone from the internet community as well. And now that I don't have my roommates I'll be able to start putting people up for future cons (Gamecon is this January, you know you want to come)
One other thing I wanted to talk about in this post is recruitment to the 40k world. I have taken it upon myself to be the official 40k tutor of local cons in order to bring more players into the fold. I think acquisition is a very important responsibly the community needs to take on to ensure it's continued growth and I enjoy spreading the wonder that is 40k to all the people out there with disposable incomes that they can fork over to my friends at The Gamer's Haven, Merlyn's, and Hobbytown. This year I hope to co-op with Gamer's Haven owner Bob Kelley to get some people into the game and sell some black reach boxes and rule books at the con.

Teaching at Gamecon I ended up having to teach four players Simultaneously because of the demand for my services

Anyway that's all I've got for this post, stay posted for things that are actually 40k related in the near future.

Chaos

Finally I am able to make a quick post about what's going on and why I continue to not post.

You see, life can be chaotic sometime, and not in the fun 40k kind.

The tuesday before last I got into a disagreement with my roommate of a very serious variety and ended up leaving home for the best interest of all parties (and to avoid the police being involved, it was an interesting conflict to say the least) Since then I have been actively been looking for an apartment that fits my income to which I can relocate and I have spend the last two weeks (almost) without internet or 40k. I've going insane because Spocon is 5 days away and I having a whole unit of Immortals to procure, build, and paint. I need to get some serious games in because I have yet to even get a test game in with this list. There is a light at the end of the tunnel however. I signed a lease this weekend and I start moving in tomorrow. I'll be getting internet on tuesday and will be able to start posting then, depending on how much time I get to start getting things done.

Long story short: I'll be back soon.

Thank you

I just wanted to say thank you to the person who has provided me with the new fantasy rule book. I'm not going to post your name or anything like that without your permission for your safety, but feel free to post a comment and take credit for it. I am forever in your debt.

Now I am off to go read the rules like a giddy little school girl. Look forward to reading my impressions on the rules in the future.

Gearing up for Spocon

So I only have three weeks left until Spocon comes and I am completely unprepared. My original plan was to get my chaos marines ready for the big shebang so I could show off my army and green stuff ability a bit... But now there is no way that's gonna happen. I have a grand total of three models painted and I am a slow and uninspired painter. So I am back to bringing my Necrons. Problem is even then I only have 1500 painted, and spocon is a 2000 point tournament.

My plan is to take my standard list as a base and add 10 immortals, a monolith and a single warrior. it leaves me with 7 points floating, but with necrons there is nothing I can really do about it.

My monolith is only one of two models I have ever had commission painted and the guy I commissioned to do it is taking FOREVER. I had him start in February of the year before last... So it's only taken him 2 and a half years but he assures me that it will be done by Spocon so we'll see.

So I just have to come up with 10 immortals. I'm most likely going to have to convert them out of Warriors or come up with some original design out of green stuff. Blech, either way it's gonna cost money and that is going to most certainly be the limiting factor...

One other thing I need to take into account is how adding these two units is going to alter my overall strategy. I won't be able to just pick up my army and move it to the other side of the table when my opponent gets near, I will have to leave some stragglers to be poached. I am going to have to play a little more offensively with this build, and I've finally got to get around to learning how to use a monolith properly after playing crons for almost 3 years... Enough avoiding it.

I can't rely on off putting people who are expecting an easy game when the look across the table at a girl playing foot necrons with no immortals or monoliths, I love the look on people's face when I beat them for the first time after they think they've been wiping the table with me for 6 turns.

I've been lazy

So it has been a while since my last post, I was this close to giving up on this whole blog thing. I decided to give it another chance though. So I'll be posting something soon eventually. I just need some readers so I don't feel like I am wasting my time.
